Start with operating outcomes
An ERP scope is stronger when it begins with decisions the business needs to make, controls it needs to enforce and handoffs it wants to simplify. Module lists alone do not explain those outcomes.
Separate fit from preference
During fit–gap analysis, distinguish legal or operational requirements from familiar screen layouts. This keeps customization focused on genuine business value.
Treat data as a workstream
Ownership, cleansing rules, reconciliation and cutover rehearsals should be planned early. Data quality cannot be repaired in a final upload weekend.
Plan adoption into delivery
Key users should validate realistic scenarios throughout the project. Role-based training and operating guidance make the system usable after launch.
